Two Triangular Shaped UFOs
My one and only UFO experience

It was late winter of 1982. I had my two children in the backseat of my car and we were traveling south on Highway 71, going home to Adrian, Missouri. It was late evening, around the time when the sun has already left the sky but the remnants of light still hang on? You know soon the darkness will win, but you figure you still have a good 15 minutes before that happens.

We were somewhere between Belton and Harrisonville when I noticed lights dancing across the hood of my dark brown 1975 Monte Carlo. I assumed it was the lights reflected from the oncoming traffic, which would have been the white headlights and red taillights, but I did find it strange that they would reflect off my hood since it was a four-lane highway and there was a large grassy area between the two sets of roads. I couldn't remember this ever happening before. (It's amazing how fast your mind can process things, isn't it?) And yet, I didn't find it too strange until I saw a blue light and then a green one. I thought, "What kind of car has blue or green taillights?" Something inside me said, "Look up." Slowly I leaned towards the steering wheel, putting my face as close to the windshield as I could, and above me, as close as the treetops off the road to the right, was a triangular shaped craft. I could only see the outline of the vehicle, but in the center there was a circle of lights flashing brightly, which were reflecting off the surface of my car. A rough estimate to the size of this vehicle was probably no wider then the width of the two lane road I was driving on.

It happened very quickly, and yet I don't remember looking at the road, even though I was still traveling 55 mph. The craft moved slowly over the hood of the car and slipped off to the upper right corner of the windshield, moving towards the tree line, where it disappeared on the other side.

I remember pulling myself back in my seat in shock. I'd never heard of a triangular shaped UFO in my life, just round ones, so I convinced myself I really hadn't seen what I just did, or I had imagined it and it was really something else. I was quite pleased with myself, I began to relax and settle in my seat once more. Then, like a bad dream, the lights appeared on the hood again, going in the same direction as before, and moving just as slow. Of course I had to look. It appeared to be the same craft (UFO), this time I couldn't pretend I wasn't seeing what I was seeing.

My oldest daughter had watched the craft move over the trees. I asked her if she had seen that. She said no, but then she was scared and didn't share my enthusiasm. I suddenly remembered, I had seen on TV or read, that if you can hear any noise, such as an engine, then its man-made and not from outer space. I was so disappointed I hadn't been able to make sure. I hadn't heard anything, that I could remember, but I had been in shock, so my mind didn't seem to reason what it had seen much less heard.

Just as I was upset with myself, my oldest daughter said she could see them behind us. I looked in my rear view mirror and only got a glimpse of them. Quickly I pulled off the road, to my daughter's horror I rolled down my window, stuck my head outside and looked back at the crafts (UFOs). There were two, one following the other. I listened and could hear a distinctive sound, like a motor, a distressed motor, one that sounded in trouble. For some reason, I believed the second was following the first one to make sure it made it back to base. I remember rolling up my window realizing that it had to be man-made since I could hear it. Slowly I put the car back into gear and got back onto the highway again, realizing we had just had a very interesting experience and something we could talk about. (It wasn't until my husband and I had been married for about 10 year or so that I saw a program on UFOs and actually saw a recreation of a triangular UFO witnessed by someone, with the same circle of lights on the bottom. I almost came out of my chair telling my husband that was what I'd had seen. Until that very moment, I had not even told him.)

As I was driving, a few things began nagging at me:

  1. No one else seemed to be phased by the sight of these two crafts (UFOs). Not one other car pulled off or seemed distracted in any way.
  2. I was going directly south at 55 miles per hour, and this craft flew over my hood going west by northwest at a very slow speed. Now I'm not a physicists or a mathematician, so I wonder how is that possible? I never stopped on the highway while it was crossing over, my foot never left the pedal, that I remember, but even if it did, I was still going at a rather high speed and should have passed under that craft rather quickly. Wouldn't you think?
  3. It all happened in a few short minutes, and yet I suddenly realized it was pitch dark outside. Could that be insignificant? Perhaps, I'm not sure. It just struck me as strange that the last rays of sunlight had disappeared so quickly.

I was temporarily living with my parents back at this time and told my father the next day what I'd seen. He listened very intently and then simply said, "I wouldn't tell anyone at work about this. In fact, it would probably be best never to mention it again." (We both worked for the same company, an independent manufacturing company subsidized by the government) I don't know, but there was just something in the way he said that, which gave me a chill. So I never mentioned it again, that is until recently. I've always wondered if anyone else had seen anything that night. I checked the papers, but there was no mention of it.

I just found it absolutely unbelievable that NO ONE else saw them, and if they did, they never said a word, but then again neither did I. Did I?
