There are many interesting UFO-related reports, rumors, sightings and documents.
Among these is an alleged 1954 U.S. military training manual for special operations.
The alleged manual is titled "SOM1-01 Special Operations Manual: Extraterrestrial Entities and Technology, Recovery and Disposal."
The alleged special operations manual and other documents are available online in PDF at MajesticDocuments.com, an excellent source of research materials about the history of the U.S. Government response to extraterrestrial visitation to Earth.
MajesticDocuments.com also provides a printed version of the manual for $8 plus shipping. MajesticDocuments.com describes this product as follows: "The Special Operations Manual 1-01 (SOM112) – This manual titled 'Extraterrestrial Entities and Technology, Recovery and Disposal' is in the 2 color 6 x 9 inch original format typical of field manuals. It is a precisely produced reproduction of the originally photographed text. 32 pages."
On the cover of the manual is the date April 1954 and reference to the guide being produced by the "Majestic-12 Group."
Is the manual a hoax or fraud? This is possible. For purposes of this article, the writer stipulates the viewpoint that the manual is not a classified or restricted government document.
UNIQUE OPERATIONS
The table of contents of the manual lists six chapters with various sub-sections as well as additional information at the end of the manual. These include:
- Chapter 1 – Operation Majestic-12, Section I: Project purpose and goals
- Chapter 2 – Introduction, Section I: General, Section II: Definition and data
- Chapter 3 – Recovery Operations, Section I: Security, Section II: Technology recovery
- Chapter 4 – Receiving and Handling, Section I: Handling upon receipt of material
- Chapter 5 – Extraterrestrial Biological Entities, Section I: Living organisms, Section II: Non-living organisms
- Chapter 6 – Guide to UFO Identification, Section I: UFOB guide, Section II: Identification criteria, Section III: Possible origins
Although not all text in the PDF version is completely legible, the alleged manual does provide interesting reading and includes the following:
"Scope: This manual has been prepared especially for Majestic-12 units. Its purpose is to present all aspects of Majestic-12 so authorized personnel will have a better understanding of the goals of the Group, be able to more expertly deal with Unidentified Flying Objects, Extraterrestrial Technology and Entities, and increase the efficiency of future operations."
"General: MJ-12 takes the subject of UFOBs, Extraterrestrial Technology and Extraterrestrial Biological Entities very seriously and considers the entire subject to be a matter of the very highest national security."
"History of the Group: Operation Majestic-12 was established by classified presidential order on 24 September 1947 at the recommendation of Secretary of Defense James V. Forrestal and Dr. Vannevar Bush, Chairman of the Joint Research and Development Board.
The alleged manual goes on to describe the goals of the Majestic-12 Group in detail including the recovery of "EBEs" and technology, establishment of special teams to accomplish this, establishment of secure facilities to accommodate same and establishment of appropriate operations to support these efforts.
The manual provides an overview of the "current situation" regarding what was known at that time about extraterrestrial visitors and their knowledge of science. Possible threats to the U.S. are also evaluated.
ALIEN BEINGS AND SPACECRAFT
An interesting section is "Description of Craft." This section describes four types: "Elliptical or disc shape," "fuselage or cigar shape," "ovoid or circular shape" and "airfoil or triangular shape." This section provides details of each UFO type, based on observations and radar readings.
In the section "Description of Extraterrestrial Biological Entities (EBEs)," the manual lists "EBE Type I" and "EBE Type II." The manual provides physical descriptions of these entities.
In the section "Description of Extraterrestrial Technology," the manual describes the analysis of materials recovered from UFO crashes.
Security of the situation and recovery of EBEs and technology from crashes or other encounters are described in detail in the manual. Sub-sections include "Press Blackout," "Secure the Area," "Removal and Transport," "Cleansing the Area" and "Special or Unusual Conditions."
The manual provides detailed instructions about properly packing any materials obtained for shipment to other personnel.
In the chapter on "Extraterrestrial Biological Entities," sub-sections include circumstances of contact or encounter such as "Encounters initiated by EBEs" and "Encounters as the result of downed craft."
Additional guidance provided in the manual covers "Isolation and Custody" of living EBEs as well as "Retrieval and Preservation" of deceased EBEs.
HISTORY AND CURRENT STATUS
Some people may believe that this alleged special operations manual could be real. Others might dismiss it as science fiction. People might conclude that it could be fake, but it might be based on some level of truthful information.
No matter how we choose to interpret and analyze the document, it certainly does generate thinking about the possibilities and might help with our understanding of complex and sensitive situations of various kinds.
If we accept that the U.S. Government might have become aware in the 1940s of a situation of extraterrestrials visiting Earth, then certainly by 1954, some kinds of procedures and operations would have been developed.
The amazing sightings of multiple UFOs over Washington, D.C., in the summer of 1952 might have further motivated officials to have various plans and procedures in place.
Scientists and other experts, intelligence personnel, military groups and government officials would all have had roles to play in developing such plans and procedures.
By the 1960s, contacts and liaison with extraterrestrial visitors might have proceeded. Reports about an exchange program begun in the '60s and involving a 12-person team of specially-trained U.S. military personnel are especially thought-provoking.
In recent years there have been many UFO sightings all around the world as well as reports of even closer encounters.
Most recently, we recall the March 1997 Phoenix lights case, the silver disc hovering over Chicago's O'Hare airport on Nov. 7, 2007. And now, the Stephenville and Erath County, Texas, sightings are part of current discussion and research.
If it is true that we are experiencing ongoing disclosure and acclimation about the UFO and ET situation, then our own responsibilities include dealing with this information in mature and responsible ways.
If it becomes more evident that we are being visited, we want to keep our feet on the ground. We might want to maintain the best of our human societies and cultures around the world.
Humans in all of Earth's regions have good qualities of fellowship, love, compassion, creativity, intelligence and understanding.
At the same time, rising above and beyond some of our human problems is not a bad idea. Maybe we could do without war, disease, poverty, hunger, suffering, injustice and destruction of our natural resources.
Can visitors from elsewhere help us with these things? We may be finding out.
