Derrel Sims and the Mass Adbuctions of 1992

In addition to being Chief of Investigations for the Houston UFO Network, Sims also leads a regular Abductee Support Group. Sims prides himself in being a pro-active investigator, and back in 1992 he had figured out certain information about the alien presence that he believed to be true. He wanted to let the aliens know that his abductees were capable of taking initiative. After working with abductees for decades, Sims has discerned that human beings consciousness is a multi-layered organism, that memory is different than recall; that "screen memories" are often used to shield abductees from the "truth" of their experience. He has tracked abduction patterns among members of his Houston Abduction Support Group, done extensive questioning with them, and done hypnotic regression work as well. (He has developed very strict protocols on the use of this therapeutic tool). He began to suspect that the alien entities are fallible and open to suggestion just as we are. Perhaps it would be possible to use some of the alien's own manipulative "mind control" back at them.

In November of 1992, Sims decided to test the hypothesis. He carefully selected one of his members and discussed his plan with her. Pat was eager to cooperate. She had certain characteristics that Derrel suspected would make her a good "Manchurian Candidate." She was easy to work with under hypnosis, she had a lifetime history of regular abductions, she was very familiar with one of her regular captors, and she was generally compliant. She did not view the aliens as necessarily hostile. In addition, she was preparing to move from Houston to Florida, which would make her a better control subject. Derrel suspected that she would be able to ask the aliens questions, and since the information she would provide them would be out of character for her, it would arouse the suspicions of the aliens and instigate a reaction. It worked.

On November 24th, 1992 Pat was abducted and acted upon the Post Hypnotic Suggestion (PHS). In a follow-up phone call to Derrel, in a letter, and in an in-person video taped regression, she recounts the nervous reaction of the aliens. (It is useful to note here that there are multiple alien types frequently reported, and there appears to be a definite hierarchy among them. The typical grays have a hive mentality and are used to carry out simple task. Above them are browns, insectoids, reptilians, humanoid Nordics, and others.) Pat also detailed receiving a nasal "implant." She was picked up again on December 8th, 1992. But this time, she was not alone.

On December 10, Derrel was contacted by his Senior Investigator, Dale Musser, also a regular abductee. He told Derrel he had the markers that an event had recently occurred and needed to meet with him. One of these markers is that following an abduction, Dale's fingernails grow at such a rapid rate that he needs to trim them several times a day! Dale's wife, normally a "non-believer" recalled vividly seeing Dale "taken away." (This description also on videotape). Dale's house also presented unusual physical characteristics, such as a series of nails that somehow popped out of the drywall on his stairway during the night, and one spot on the roof where a metal bar and more nails had mysteriously separated from the roof.

Derrel convened a group meeting on December 11, and six other group members reported feeling like they had had an event also. One particularly shy woman approached Derrel with the embarrassed information about a group member. "Somehow, I know that David is very hairy...I know what David looks like nude because I saw him on the ship!" (Abductees are typically naked on board craft.) None of the group members, except for one married couple, had spoken since the event of December 8, 1992. Realizing that he may have a mass abduction on his hands, Derrel arranged to work with the members individually. Interestingly, during the meeting, some of the members became agitated, said that they felt that they were not supposed to discuss what happened to them, and left. Some of them would be picked up again that very night.

Derrel arranged to work with Dale and the other members individually, and eventually he worked with Pat in person. One member consciously, and the others under hypnosis, describe how implants installed during the December 8 event had been removed during the December 11 event. One of the group abductees, Linda, had what appears to be a casing for a possible implant pop out of her eye while at work. Her boss witnessed this. Derrel has this "ocular implant" as part of his collection. Derrel now suspects that the aliens wished to monitor the Support Group meeting.

After all the participants in the events had been interviewed extensively, much of their information turned out to be similar. Although each abductee perceives his or her experience differently, details such as the description of the aliens and the craft, the types of questions the aliens asked, and witnessing specific support group members present during the events point toward either a mass hallucination or the validity of the event. During the second event, the members were asked "What do you think your group is doing? What is Derrel up to? How do you know you are an abductee? How do you recognize other abductees?" -- questions apparently triggered by Pat's PHS.

Dale, an engineer by trade, has diagrammed the interior of the craft and drawn a schematic of the exterior, which he estimates to be 600 miles in diameter. Interestingly, film exists of just such an alleged super-craft and aired on Sightings. The object moved at a fantastic speed between the earth and the moon, reportedly filmed on December 11, 1992. While on the huge craft, Dale describes seeing a dinosaur, which he later identifies as a platebedon, in suspended animation. The aliens seemed most interested in Dale and also in Pat, the woman whom had received the PHS. Both Dale and Pat were shown drawings and diagrams of the human brain, and were asked -- very insistently -- to reveal where the human subconscious was. Was this a reference to hypnosis work that Sims had done with his group members? Both Pat and Dale independently described being put in a black box; they also tell of moving past "light portals" as though they were doorways to another area. Dale and Pat became aware of the other during their events. As regular abductees familiar with their captors, both sensed a mood of urgency and importance during both December 8th and 11th.

The most convincing aspect of this case for Derrel, however, came when Pat described to him something he had never revealed to another living soul -- the details of his last abduction at age 17! Only Derrel and the aliens knew what happened that day, yet Pat recalled specifics he had never mentioned, and described a creature not present in available alien lore. Pat also knew about an object the aliens left behind during this teenage abduction. Was Pat just being psychic? She had never demonstrated such abilities before. Was this a message being sent back to Derrel by the alien presence? We can only surmise.

The following year, one of the abductees that was taken in the Mass Abduction grew frustrated at her inability to intervene in her experiences. Derrel, buoyed by the success of the PHS used on Pat, instilled hypnotic suggestions that she herself would not be aware of. He suggested she would be physically and mentally able to resist the aliens from abducting her. Derrel also suggested that she "bring back Freddy Krueger's hat" -- i.e. get a specific piece of physical evidence. The lady had no conscious memory of what Sims had told her subconscious. After her next visitation, Sims interviewed her on video tape and learned he had been quite successful. She recounted using her own mind control to bring the alien close to her. Then, resisting their attempts to paralyze her, she reached up and grabbed at one of his eyes. Derrel remembers from his own experiences that these were not eyes but protective coverings, so it was no surprise to him that she reported tearing off a dark covering. Underneath were a series of red and white lines. Three other entities present converged on her, and it was only after placing a device over her head that they were able to pry her fingers off the object (in fact, on the video you see the woman "trance out" as she recalls this moment.) The aliens then fled.

The Double Mass Abduction is a landmark case for several reasons. First, it demonstrates that abductions are not individual events, but part of a larger program. Secondly, there exists corroborating evidence, both experiential and physical, that supports its occurrence. Finally, it is the first documented case of an abduction being instigated by a researcher. The use of PHS and other hypnosis techniques in relaying information to the alien presence points the way to a new direction in abduction research -- as a defensive weapon, a means of communication, as a therapeutic tool that empowers the victim. Is humankind to remain passive guinea-pigs for other species, or are we to take our fate into our own hands as responsibly and assertively as we can? These are the provocative possibilities that the work of Derrel Sims, the Alien Hunter, presents to the rest of the world.
